Twenty years after his debut its debut, Camelot returned to Broadway in a Frank Dunlop-helmed revival, which opened July 8, 1980. The production, featuring choreography by Buddy Schwab, played 6 previews and 56 performances before closing August 23, 1980, earning two Tony Award nominations including Best Revival (Play or Musical).

Camelot tells the story of King Arthur as he builds his kingdom and fights for justice with the Knights of the Round Table as his wife Guenevere falls in love with his favorite knight, Sir Lancelot. Based on T.H. White’s The Once and Future King, the musical features music by Frederick Loewe and book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner.

The revival featured Richard Burton as Arthur, Christine Ebersole as Guenevere, Richard Muenz as Lancelot Du Lac, Robert Fox as Morded, William Parry as Sir Dinadan, James Valentine as King Pellinore/Merlyn/Friar, Paxton Whitehead as King Pellinore, and Thor Fields as Tom of Warwick. Rounding out the cast were Nora Brennan, Jeanne Caryl, Melanie Clements, Stephanie Conlow, Van Craig, John Deyle, Debra Dickinson, Richard Dodd, Cecil Fulfer, Davis Gaines, Lisa Ann Grant, Ken Henley, John Herrera, Gary Jaketic, William James, Kelby Kirk, Herndon Lackey, Deborah Magid, andy McAvin, Laura McCarthy, Robert Molnar, Steve Osborn, Patrice Pickering, Janelle Price, Nancy Rieth, Patrick Rogers, Deobrah Roshe, D. Paul Shannon, Jack Starkey, Ronald Bennet Stratton, Sally Ann Swarm and Sally Williams.

Based on original direction by Moss Hart, Camelot featured scenic and costume design by Desmond Heeley, lighting design by Thomas Skelton, and sound design by John McClure with stage management by Jonathan Weiss and Cathy Rice.
