Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel premiered on Broadway April 19, 1945, at the Majestic Theatre. The production, which starred Jan Clayton as Julie Jordan and John Raitt as Billy Bigelow, includes such numbers as “If I Loved You,” “June Is Bustin’ Out All Over,” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

Carousel tells the tale of brash carousel barker Billy Bigelow and Julie Jordan, a quiet girl who works in the mill, as they fall in love, marry, and have a stormy relationship that leads to tragedy and an attempt at mending old wounds from beyond the grave.
