Following a successful European premiere at the Other Palace, the musical adaptation of Heathers will transfer to London’s West End this fall. Performances will begin September 3 at the Theatre Royal Haymarket; the limited engagement is currently scheduled to run through November 24.
London stage favorite Carrie Hope Fletcher will reprise her performance as Veronica Sawyer; additional casting for the West End bow will be confirmed at a later date.
The musical, based on the 1988 dark comedy, is penned by Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy. Following a 2013 Los Angeles premiere and 2014 Off-Broadway engagement, the show gained a cult-like following similar to the original film. The Other Palace played host to a workshop presentation (which incorporated some new material) last year before the official London premiere, which runs through August 4.
The new staging is directed by Andy Fickman and features choreography by Gary Lloyd, sets and costumes by David Shields, lighting design by Ben Cracknell, and sound design by Dan Samson.
Heathers follows Veronica Sawyer, a high school girl plucked from nothingness by the ultimate vicious clique—the three Heathers. When mysterious new kid JD arrives, however, he and Veronica team up to put an end to their bullying—at whatever cost.
