Bard Summerscape will stage an all-new production of Leonard Bernstein’s 1950 Broadway musical Peter Pan, which will run June 28–July 22. The 90-minute chamber arrangement from Olivier Award-winning Bernstein specialist Christopher Alden will explore the darker side of the childhood fantasy in a psychologically gripping dramatic treatment.

In this new interpretation, set in an abandoned fairground, Wendy Darling has become an only child. Bernstein’s entire original score, which was cut down to five songs for the 1950 Broadway premiere, has been restored and re-scored for an onstage band of five musicians who are incorporated into the action.

Set to star are Peter Smith as Peter Pan and Erin Markey as Wendy. They are joined by William Michals as Captain Hook; Rona Figueroa as Mrs. Darling, Tiger Lily, and the Crocodile; Jack Ferver as Tinker Bell; and an ensemble including Milo Cramer, Catherine Bloom, Jewel Evans, Alec Glass, and Charles Mai.

Peter Pan will officially open July 6.

Ferver, who plays Tinker Bell, also choreographs Peter Pan. The creative team includes Garth Edwin Sunderland (orchestrations), Michael A. Ferrara (music direction), Marsha Ginsberg (scenic design), Terese Wadden (costume design), JAX Messenger (lighting design), Stowe Nelson (sound design), Chris De Camillis (stage manager), and Henry Russell Bergstein, CSA (casting).
