Tony-nominated choreographer Joshua Bergasse will teach you how to shimmy and more during two classes at Broadway Dance Center.
As part of BDC’s Broadway Choreography Series, Bergasse will teach choreography from the Off-Broadway production of the musical revue Smokey Joe's Cafe with demonstrations from members of the cast.
On September 1 (10:30AM-12:00PM), Bergasse will train attendees to perform “On Broadway” with stars John Edwards, Jelani Remy and Shavey Brown. On September 4 (6:00PM-7:30PM), the choreographer instructs “Teach Me How to Shimmy” with Emma Degerstedt and Bronwyn Tarboton.
Smokey Joe’s Cafe: The Songs of Lieber & Stoller currently runs at Stage 42, directed and choreographed by Bergasse in a production that transferred from the Ogunquit Playhouse. The cast features Dwayne Cooper (Motown, Hairspray), Degerstedt (Desperate Measures Off-Broadway), Edwards (Jersey Boys), Dionne D. Figgins (Hot Feet, Memphis), Nicole Vanessa Ortiz (SpamiltonOff-Broadway), Kyle Taylor Parker (Kinky Boots, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Remy (Disney’s The Lion King), Max Sangerman (Blue Man Group Off-Broadway), and Alysha Umphress (On The Town, American Idiot). Standbys for the production are Brown (Dreamgirls Off-Broadway), Antoinette Comer (Mammia Mia!), Dan Domenech (Rock of Ages) and Tarboton (A Chorus Line international tour).
