Manhattan Theatre Club will present the world premiere of Jaja’s African Hair Braiding, written by Jocelyn Bioh (School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls) and directed by Whitney White (Our Dear Dead Drug Lord). The production will kickstart the theatre company's 2023-24 Broadway season at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre with performances set to begin in fall 2023.

The show takes place in Harlem at Jaja’s salon and follows a tight-knit community of West African immigrant hair braiders. Performance dates, casting, and creative team are to be announced.

Manhattan Theatre Club's 2022-23 line-up includes Broadway productions of Martyna Majok's Cost of Living (which begins previews September 13); the London transfer of Anthony McCarten's The Collaboration, starring Paul Bettany and Jeremy Pope; and the Laura Linney-led world premiere of Summer, 1976. The Off-Broadway line-up includes the world premieres of Where the Mountain Meets the Sea by Jeff Augustin and the best we could (a family tragedy), along with King James.

Presented Off-Broadway, Poor Yella Rednecks will join Bioh's work for the 2023-24 season.
