The Brooklyn Academy of Music has announced programming for the 2016 Next Wave Festival, set to run September 7-December 18. The line-up features the usual mix of theatre, dance, music, opera, film and visual arts events from around the U.S. and the world.

The theatre line-up features works by BAM favorite Robert Wilson in collaboration with Mikhail Baryshnikov; Broadway director and Tony nominee Ivo van Hove; New York-based group The Civilians; and internationally acclaimed director Peter Brook with frequent collaborator Marie-Hélène Estienne.

Artistic director of The Civilians, a company known for making investigative theatre works, Steve Cosson returns Off-Broadway with the world premiere of The Undertaking. The two-hander is based on a real-life conversation between Cosson and Colombian-American artist Jessica Mitrani, about quests into the underworld. Performances are set to run September 21-24 in the BAM Fisher Theatre.

Brook, Estienne and Jean-Claude Carrière return to the BAM stage September 28 with their production of Battlefield, based on Brook’s Mahabharata, 30 years after the epic show played in Brooklyn. Performances will run through October 9 in the BAM Harvey Theater.

Kicking off October 15 will be Wilson and Baryshnikov’s Letter to a Man. The two join forces for this new work based on the diary of Russian dancer and choreographer Vaslav Nijinsky, who famously suffered from schizophrenia at the height of his career. Featuring text by Christian Dumais-Lvowski, the U.S. premiere is set to run through October 30.

In November Crucible director van Hove, along with Toneelgroep Amsterdam, will bring Shakespeare’s Kings of War to the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House. Kings of War combines Henry V, Henry VI Parts 1, 2 and 3 and Richard III in a single show about the perils of power. Performances are set to run November 3-6.

The slate is made up of 12 theatre productions, two opera works and a host of music, film and dance events. For the full line-up and to purchase tickets, visit BAM.org or contact BAM Ticket Services at (718) 636-4100.
