Irish Repertory Theatre is set to present the world premiere of Rebel in the Soul, a new play by Larry Kirwan (Liverpool Fantasy). The play, which previously had a reading with Irish Rep, recounts the 1951 confrontation between Dr. Noel Browne, Minister for Health in the Irish Government; party leader and ex-Irish Republican Army chief Seán McBride; and Dr. John Charles McQuaid, Archbishop of Dublin, over Browne's Mother and Child Health Scheme—an incident which subsequently changed Irish life forever.
Directed by Charlotte Moore (Finian’s Rainbow), Rebel in the Soul will begin performances April 12 at Irish Rep Theatre, located at 132 West 22nd Street, in the newly renovated W. Scott McLucas Studio Theatre. The production will officially open April 18 and is scheduled to run through May 24.
Full casting and creative team will be announced soon.
