According to the press representative for the concerts, the entire original cast (with the exception of Robert Westenberg) will assemble for the reunion of the Stephen Sondheim/James Lapine classic. Expect Bernadette Peters, Joanna Gleason, Chip Zien, Tom Aldredge and the rest of the original Broadway company to illuminate the stage of the Broadway Theatre (Broadway at 53rd Street) in this informal re-creation of the Tony-winning musical.

The concerts will benefit two AIDS-related charities--Friends in Deed, which provides emotional support to anyone affected by life-threatening diseases (primarily HIV/AIDS), and God's Love We Deliver, which is dedicated to enhancing and prolonging the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS through nutrition services.

When it debuted on Broadway a decade ago, Time Magazine called Into the Woods "the best show yet from the most creative mind in musical theater today." The original production ran for a total of 764 performances and 43 previews and was filmed for PBS with the original Broadway company, which is available on home video. Woods boasts one of Sondheim's most beautiful scores, including such songs as "Stay With Me," "Children Will Listen" and "No One Is Alone." In Friday's New York Times, book writer/director Lapine commented, "We had a similar 10th-anniversary reunion for the cast of Sunday in the Park with George in 1995, and it was really wonderful. You do these shows and develop these really close relationships with people, and then they go off and do other things."
