Most Broadway houses employ unionized ushers to take tickets, help people to their seats, distribute Playbills, and more. However, there are a couple of Broadway theatres—and many more Off-Broadway and smaller venues—who operate with volunteer ushers. While you don’t get paid, you do get to see theatre for free. Here is a list of the New York City theatre venues who offer volunteer usher programs:

Studio 54, Roundabout Theatre Company Sign up in person at The Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre. Check in with security and ask to register as a volunteer usher. (Note: There will be no volunteer ushers for Latin History for Morons.)
