Anthony Rosenthal, Betsy Wolfe, Tracie Thoms, Christian Borle, Stephanie J. Block, Brandon Uranowitz, and Andrew Rannells Joan Marcus

This week, camera crews for Live from Lincoln Center visited Broadway’s Walter Kerr Theatre to capture the January 3 and January 4 evening performances of the limited engagement of Falsettos. A broadcast date on PBS has not yet been announced.

After the January 3 performance, some audience members took to community message boards believing they heard changes in the lyrics.

A press representative on Falsettos confirms that lyrics were changed for the taped performances that will combine to air on PBS to eliminate expletives.

The changed lyrics include:

During “The Baseball Game” Marvin and Whizzer usually sing “How could I know without him/My life would be boring as shit.” This was changed to “My life would be flat as a lake.”

Later on in the show, Cordelia’s line in “A Day in Falsettoland” has been changed from “You save lives and I save chicken fat/I can't fucking deal with that” to “You save lives and I save chicken fat/How’m I supposed to deal with that?”

The changes were only for the two performances that were filmed. From January 5 onward the original lyrics will be sung.
