Everyday Rapture is billed as "the story of a young woman's psycho-sexual-spiritual journey on the rocky path that separates her mostly Mennonite past from her mostly Manhattan future," according to show notes. "Her life takes her from the cornfields of Kansas to the clover fields of New York (with a disturbing detour through YouTube)."
Though not defined as a musical or play with music, Everyday Rapture features songs made famous by David Byrne, George Harrison, The Dap Kings and Judy Garland. Musical staging is by Michele Lynch, orchestrations by Tom Kitt and musical direction by Carmel Dean.
The Everyday Rapture design team includes Christine Jones (scenic), Tom Broecker (costume), Kevin Adams (lighting) and Brian Ronan (sound). Michele Lynch (The Coast of Utopia) handles musical staging.
Second Stage will next present its final show of the season, the New York premiere of the new musical Vanities, June 30-Aug. 9. Judith Ivey directs the Jack Heifner (book) and David Kirshenbaum musical featuring Lauren Kennedy, Sarah Stiles and Anneliese van der Pol.
