Industry readings of Prodigal Daughters, a new musical from Elizabeth A. Davis and Lauren Daigle, are being held at NYC's The Sheen Center for Thought and Culture July 31. Jason Danieley is directing.
With a score (by Daigle) that blends country, Cajun, and pop, the work explores "the ancient alchemy of loss, forgiveness, and eventual renewal" in the American South, according to press notes. The book and concept are by Davis, seen on Broadway as Thomas Jefferson in the 2022 revival of 1776, and a Tony nominee for her performance in the original cast of Once.
The reading cast includes David Abeles, Dawn Cantwell, Carolee Carmello, Shadia Fairuz, Mark Jacoby, Cassondra James, Timothy H. Lee, Megan Loomis, Jacob Ramos, Kristen Tarragó, and Akron Watson.
Cynthia Meng is music directing and penning vocal arrangements, with orchestrations by Mike Elizondo and Lloyd Kikoler. The readings feature sound design by Marián Gómez Villota.
Melanie T. Morgan and Madison Lane are stage managing, and Evan Bernardin Productions' Evan Bernardin and Ella Lieberman are handling general management. Rachel Roberson is company manager.
