The Daily Mail reports London’s National Theatre will welcome the world premiere of Disney’s Pinocchio in December 2017. Directed by John Tiffany (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), the stage adaptation by Dennis Kelly (Matilda the Musical) will partially be based on the 1940 animated film. Kelly has replaced Enda Walsh, who withdrew from the project due to a heavy workload.
The production is not produced by Disney; the company is only providing rights to songs and story. Pinocchio is the story of wood-worker Geppetto and the wooden marionette he crafts who wants to become a real boy. The title role will be played by an actor, while the other roles will feature puppets.
