
Galt MacDermot and William Dumaresq's musical, which is based on William Saroyan's screenplay and novel, is being directed by Julianne Boyd with choreography by Lara Teeter. The production will run through July 16. Joining Boone onstage are Bobby List as Homer with Eamon Foley, Morgan James, Doug Kreeger, Heath Calvert, Adam Sansiveri, Megan Lewis, Cheryl Freeman, Donald Grody, Molly Sorohan, Andre Garner, Keira O’Neill, Kimberly Cuellar, Robb Sherman, Colin Cunliffe, Matthew Erlbach and Lori Brooke Cohan.
The Human Comedy, according to press notes, is a sung-through musical about the coming of age of Homer Macauley, a "telegraph messenger who becomes a witness to the sorrows and joys of a small California town during World War II."
The creative team also includes Darren Cohen (musical direction), Alejo Vietti (costume designer), Scott Pinkney (lighting designer) and Karl Eigsti (scenic designer).
Debby Boone has appeared on Broadway in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and the revival of Grease! Her other theatrical credits include The Sound of Music, Meet Me in St. Louis and Camelot. Boone's latest recording, a tribute to Rosemary Clooney, is titled "Reflections of Rosemary."
The Human Comedy — directed by Wilford Leach — premiered at the Public Theater in 1983. The musical transferred to Broadway's Royale Theatre in April 1984 with a cast that included Rex Smith, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Stephen Geoffreys.
