Industry News Classic Stage Company Plans Bernstein's Broadway Benefit Evening

Kate Baldwin, Nikki Renée Daniels, Santino Fontana, and Alysha Umphress will perform songs from West Side Story, On the Town, Candide, and more.

Off-Broadway's Classic Stage Company has set a benefit concert event celebrating the Broadway work of Leonard Bernstein for June 9 at the company's Lynn F. Angelson Theater. Classics Up Close: Leonard Bernstein will feature songs from On the TownWest Side StoryWonderful Town, and Candide.

On hand to sing those songs will be Broadway favorites Kate Baldwin, Nikki Renée Daniels, Santino Fontana, and Alysha Umphress. Additional performers are to be announced.

“Musical theatre is a classic American genre, and at CSC we love exploring the great composers and lyricists whose work has come to comprise the canon of great musicals,” says CSC Producing Artistic Director Jill Rafson in a statement. “Leonard Bernstein contributed so much to the arts, and we’re excited to put the focus specifically on his creations for Broadway musicals. Getting to hear his gorgeous music as sung by these stunning performers in our intimate space is sure to be an extraordinary experience.”
