The role of the President will be played by two actors; Tom Galantich will portray "WJ" Clinton, "the wholesome, intelligent one," and Duke Lafoon (MONICA! The Musical) will take on the role of "Billy, the randy, charming one."
Galantich and Lafoon join the previously announced Tony nominee Kerry Butler, who has been tapped to play Hillary Rodham Clinton and Emmy Award winner Judy Gold as Eleanor Roosevelt.
Produced by Kari Lynn Hearn of CoolChic Productions and executive-produced by Ken Davenport, Clinton the Musical is written by Paul and Michael Hodge.
Additional casting includes John Treacy Egan (Nice Work If You Can Get It, Sister Act) as Newt Gingrich, Veronica Kuehn (Mamma Mia!, Avenue Q) as Monica Lewinsky, Kevin Zak (Silence! The Musical) as Kenneth Starr with Kara Guy (national tour Footloose), Dale Hensley (La Cage aux Folles), Rob Richardson (Jekyll & Hyde) and Gretchen Wylder (Bedbugs!!!).
Tony Award nominee Dan Knechtges will direct. The creative team also includes Tony-winning scenic designer Beowulf Boritt, Tony-nominated costume designer David Woolard and Tony-nominated sound designer Peter Fitzgerald. "If President William Jefferson Clinton behaved like two different people—one moment noble, the next naughty—that’s because he was!" according to press notes. "Clinton The Musical explores the two very different sides of the 42nd President of the United States. With Hillary (Rodham) Clinton at their side, the two will handle issues from The White House to Whitewater, the sax to the sex, social security to social climbers, and in the process make history. Maybe. You cannot miss this 'hillary-ous' new musical and outrageous double bill!"
