April 27 marks the 30th anniversary of the sci-fi musical Starmites, which opened on Broadway in 1989. The musical featured music and lyrics by Barry Keating, who penned the book with Stuart Ross. The original production was directed by Larry Carpenter. Starring in the original Broadway cast were Liz Larsen, Gabriel Barre, Brian Lane Green, and Sharon McNight.
Starmites concerns a lonely teenage girl who magically finds herself in the comic-book world she adores, where she must lead the Starmites in their efforts to save the earth and battle the evil Shak Graa. The production was nominated for three Tony Awards including Best Musical.
