Based on the Paramount film and the Hasbro board game, the stage show is adapted from Jonathan Lynn's screenplay with additional material by Hunter Foster, Sandy Rustin, and Eric Price.
The production, billed as a “murder-mystery comedy thriller,” follows six guests at a dinner party where they find themselves implicated as murder suspects when their host turns up dead.
Work Light Productions and The Araca Group will produce the upcoming tour in association with Aged in Wood and Lively McCabe Entertainment.
“We are extremely proud and excited to partner with The Araca Group, Work Light Productions and the entire development team of Clue to bring this beloved and outrageously funny film adaptation to millions of fans worldwide,” said Sean Cercone, president of Broadway Licensing, in a statement.
“On behalf of The Araca Group and Work Light Productions, we are all thrilled that this iconic story will be available to be performed by theaters around the country,” added Michael Barra, co-president of Lively McCabe Entertainment. "The Stock and Amateur marketplace played a large factor in our decision to pursue this property, and expediting the show’s availability, especially to high schools, is something we’re quite proud of. We are all looking forward to working with Sean and his team at Broadway Licensing to bring Clue to as many theater-goers as possible in the coming years."
Prior to embarking on a national tour, Clue: On Stage will play the Cape Playhouse in Dennis, Massachusetts August 21–September 1. The murder mystery will star Tony nominee Nancy Opel as Mrs. Peacock, Tony nominee Jennifer Simard as Mrs. White, Tony winner Michael McGrath as Col. Mustard, Lorenzo Pisoni as Wadsworth, Duane Boutté as Professor Plum, and David Beach. Hunter Foster directs with choreography by Jen Cody.
