Broadway Cares Broadway Cares Launches Fall Red Bucket Fundraising Campaign

The six-week campaign kicks off at Broadway theatres October 24, with the Red Bucket Follies in December.

Broadway Cares' iconic Red Buckets is back for the fall. Beginning October 24 and lasting six weeks, casts of Broadway, Off-Broadway, and several touring productions will be making post-curtain call appeals for donations—any and all, large and small—as audiences leave the theatres.

This six-week fundraising cycle will culminate with the Red Bucket Follies, an annual celebration featuring songs, dances, and original skits—plus the all-important reveal of which shows raised the most for Broadway Cares. This year's performances are planned for 4:30 PM December 8 and 2 PM December 9 at the New Amsterdam Theatre. Tickets are available at BroadwayCares.org.

Kicking off Red Buckets fundraising this weekend are Broadway's & Juliet, Art, The Book of Mormon, Buena Vista Social Club, Death Becomes Her, Hamilton, Hell’s Kitchen, The Lion King, Maybe Happy Ending, Oh, Mary!, The Outsiders, Six, Waiting for Godot, and Wicked; Off-Broadway’s Heathers, Little Shop of Horrors, and The Play That Goes Wrong; and the national tours of A Beautiful Noise, the Neil Diamond Musical; Beauty and the Beast; Hamilton (Angelica); Kimberly Akimbo; The Notebook; Six (Boleyn); Some Like it Hot; The Sound of Music; and Wicked (Munchkinland).

Participating starting next week are Broadway’s Aladdin, The Great Gatsby, Hadestown, Mamma Mia!, MJ, Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Operation Mincemeat, and Stranger Things: The First Shadow, as well as the national touring production of Moulin Rouge! The Musical. More Broadway, Off-Broadway, and national touring shows will join in the coming weeks.

“The need has never been greater, and neither has my gratitude for our theatre community, its audiences, and our dedicated volunteers,” Broadway Cares Executive Director Danny Whitman said in a statement. “At a time when funding cuts are threatening vital programs and services, the Broadway community continues to rise to the occasion with extraordinary generosity. Time and again, this community reminds us what compassion in action looks like, transforming every dollar dropped in a Red Bucket into meals, medication and life-affirming care for those who need them most.”

The Red Buckets appear in theatres twice a year during competitive fundraising in the spring and fall. This year’s Fall Fundraising Campaign continues through December 7. Every dollar dropped in #RedBuckets becomes healthy meals delivered, medication provided, and hope restored for those who need them most.

Since 1989, the 33 editions of the Fall Fundraising Campaign have raised $104 million to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is one of the nation’s leading industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organizations. By drawing upon the talents, resources, and generosity of the American theatre community, since 1988 Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has awarded more than $300 million for essential services for people with HIV/AIDS and other critical illnesses across the United States.
