British pop star Conor Maynard takes over the role of Charlie Price in the Tony-winning Kinky Boots beginning November 19 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
Maynard succeeds Mark Ballas, who played his final performance November 18. Maynard is currently scheduled to stay with the hit musical through January 10, 2019.
“I am honored and beyond excited to be able to join the incredible company of Kinky Boots,” Maynard said in an earlier statement. “I’ve always truly admired the talent that performers on Broadway possess, and performing alongside them is going to be a real challenge. I’m so lucky to have the most devoted fans on the planet, and I can’t wait to show them another side of me.”
In related news, Callum Francis, who has starred in the U.K. and Australian tours of Kinky Boots, will make his Broadway debut as Lola in the Tony-winning musical beginning January 11, 2019. Francis will play the role through March 17, succeeding J. Harrison Ghee, who departs the show January 10. However, Ghee will return to the role March 19 through the show’s final performance.
As previously reported, Kinky Boots will end its run April 7, 2019. At the time of its closing, the musical will be the 25th longest-running production in Broadway history, having played 34 previews and 2,507 regular performances.
