Panic! At the Disco frontman Brendon Urie takes his final bow in Broadway’s Kinky Boots August 6, following an acclaimed ten-week run as Charlie Price in the Tony-winning musical.
Kinky Boots alum Andy Kelso returns to the role of Charlie beginning August 8. He joins current Lola J. Harrison Ghee, who also starred as the drag queen-entrepreneur in the touring production. Beginning September 26, Tony winner Billy Porter and Tony nominee Stark Sands will reprise their performances as Lola and Charlie. The two original stars will play a limited engagement through January 7, 2018.
In other casting news, Delaney Westfall will join the Broadway company as Lauren starting August 22. She steps in for Taylor Louderman, who is set to take on the role of Regina George in the D.C. world premiere of the Mean Girls musical.
Urie is the last remaining original member of Panic! At the Disco. The band’s fifth studio album, Death of a Bachelor, dropped in January 2016—later that year, they headlined a summer tour alongside Weezer. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Chart and was nominated for a 2017 Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. Their music can be heard on the soundtracks of such films as Jennifer’s Body, The Smurfs, and Suicide Squad.
With the combination of the buzz-worthy casting and an expected summer tourist rush, the musical’s weekly grosses jumped back above $1 million with Urie in the role, and it has surpassed its gross potential for the past six weeks.
A new block of tickets for Kinky Boots, which has played more than 1,750 performances at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, is now on sale through August 26, 2018.
