The Broadway cast of Kinky Boots will reunite with its Tony-winning original star Billy Porter for a special August 7 pair of concerts featuring music by the show’s composer, Cyndi Lauper. The event is designed as a benefit to help fund treatment for Kinky Boots ensemble member (and former Lola understudy) Eric LaJuan Summers, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.
There will be two performances, at 7 and 9:30 PM, at Feinstein’s/54 Below cabaret at 254 West 54th Street in Manhattan.
As a dancer and ensemble member Summers has six Broadway musicals under his belt. He made his debut in the original production of Aida, and has appeared in The Wedding Singer, The Little Mermaid, Elf, and, most recently, the 2013 production of Motown The Musical. Summers himself appeared on the 54 Below stage in 2015 as part of the concert Broadway Loves Mariah Carey.
Organizers Shoshana Feinstein and Blair Goldberg promise that audience can expect to hear “some classic Cyndi pop tunes as well as a unique take on some favorites from the Kinky Boots score.”
Kinky Boots Sings Cyndi Lauper will feature performances by current cast members Adinah Alexander, Joseph Anthony Byrd, Devin Trey Campbell, Lindsay Nicole Chambers, Christopher Convery, Holly Davis, Jesus Del Orden, Stephane Duret, Anna Eilinsfeld, Christy Faber, Gaelen Gilliland, Blair Goldberg, Natalie Joy Johnson, Jake Katzman, Andy Kelso, Tommy Martinez, Bonnie Milligan, Alan Mingo, Jr., Shannon O’Boyle, Jake Odmark, Jennifer Perry, and Ricky Schroeder.
Other “special alumni” of the show are also promised. Will Van Dyke serves as music director.
Tickets for the benefit cost $45–$85, plus a $25 food/beverage minimum and can be ordered here.
