The Evergreen Diner, which has served inexpensive meals to Broadway theatregoers for a quarter century, will close its doors for the last time at noon on New Year's Eve, according to a report in The New York Post.

The eatery is located at 145 West 47th Street, across from the stage door of the Palace Theatre and just steps from the TKTS booth in Times Square.

Co-owner Ilias Argenas told WNBC-TV news that that the diner's lease was not renewed when the building was sold. Several buildings in the northeast corner of Times Square have been undergoing renovation or rebuilding.

Argenas told WNBC that he hopes to open a new diner somewhere in the neighborhood, though several similar eateries have shuttered in recent years, notably McHale’s, Cafe Edison, and the Stage Deli. The Evergreen closing comes one day after the final call for the more famous Carnegie Deli a few blocks north on Seventh Avenue between 54th and 55th Streets.
