Classic Arts News Anna Netrebko Pulls Out of Covent Garden Don Giovanni for First Two Nights Anna Netrebko, stricken for weeks with a throat infection, was unable to perform in last night's opening performance of Mozart's Don Giovanni at the Royal Opera House in London; she has withdrawn from tomorrow evening's performance as well. Taking her place is another Russian soprano, Marina Poplavskaya.
A member of Covent Garden's Jette Parker Young Artist program, Poplavskaya sang the role of Donna Anna last year at Valencia's Palau de les Arts. Also in 2006, she made her mainstage Covent Garden debut, singing the Third Norn in G‹tterd‹mmerung and Rachel in La Juive for the Royal Opera at the Barbican.

The remaining Royal Opera House cast stays unchanged, with Erwin Schrott as Don Giovanni, Kyle Ketelsen as Leporello, Ana Mar‹a Mart‹nez as Donna Elvira, Michael Schade and Robert Murray alternating as Don Ottavio, Reinhard Hagen and Robert Lloyd sharing the role of the Commendatore, Sarah Fox as Zerlina and Matthew Rose as Masetto. Ivor Bolton and David Syrus (July 4 and 8) conduct the Royal Opera House Orchestra.
