As of January 1, 2017 Broadway actors Alysha Umphress and Cody Williams are officially engaged. The couple announced their new status on Umphress’ Instagram account.
The two began dating during the reading/workshop phase of the latest Broadway revival of On The Town, in which Umphress played the brassy cabbie Hildy. Umphress also boasts credits in Broadway’s Bring It On: The Musical, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, On A Clear Day You Can See Forever, and American Idiot.
“I had seen her photo on Playbill.com when American Idiot came out, and I just thought she was gorgeous. I was like, ‘When I get to New York and I meet this person, I’m going to be absolutely shameless and go after her,’” Williams told Playbill in 2014. “After I got cast in this On the Town reading, I went to Alysha’s good friend, Marla Mindelle, who was is in Cinderella, with me and I said, ‘Tell me about your friend, because I think she’s as cute as they come.’”
