Broadway favorite Alex Wyse has set a limited one-week engagement for his solo musical Picking Up Speed, which he will perform at the Royal Family Performing Arts Space in NYC December 6-11.
The work sees Wyse leading audiences through the experience of losing oneself in a narcissistic relationship. Part book musical and part concert, the musical features 14 original songs penned by Wyse. Marlo Hunter is directing.
“What Alex has written is funny, heartbreaking, completely surprising, and unlike most things I’ve seen as a theatregoer,” says producer Cody Lassen. “I’m honored to help him bring it to the stage.”
Wyse's Broadway credits include Good Night, Oscar; Spring Awakening; and Lysistrata Jones. He's also been seen Off-Broadway in Ride the Cyclone, Bare, Triassic Parq, and A Commercial Jingle for Regina Comet.
Joining Lassen on the producing team are Jesse Stainaker, Peter McKown, and Sean Cocchia. James Forbes Sheehan is associate producer.
Kyle Brenn is serving as orchestrator and music director, with Bailie Slevin as production stage manager. Matthew D'Arrigo is general manager.
