Broadway shows can inspire fans in countless ways, from home decor and promposals, to graduation caps—and tattoos. We asked our social media followers to share their theatre-inspired tattoos. From intricate Great Comet designs to the coordinates of the Gershwin Theatre, you've really unleashed your creativity.
But don't think these Broadway-themed tattoos are just for fans. We saw several submissions from Broadway performers, including one from original SpongeBob SquarePants cast member Abby C. Smith. She shared her inspiration with us: "It started out as a bit, as many things do, because the SpongeBob cast is all about shenanigans. We said, 'If we go to Broadway, and if we get nominated for a Best Musical Tony Award, and if we win the Tony, and then 20 years later the revival cast gets nominated, and if THEY win best revival...THEN we’ll all get tattoos!' Then some of those things actually did happen and a few of us decided we really did want to get tattoos! So Lilli Cooper (SpongeBob SquarePants' original Sandy), Vasthy Mompoint (ensemble), and I went together and got a pineapple. Later, Jesse 'JP' Johnson (swing) and Kenneth Ferrone (associate director) went and got the same tattoo! The show was so meaningful to all of us involved, and we really created a bond that we will carry with us forever. What better way to stay connected forever than to get matching tattoos?"
Flip through the gallery to see Smith, Cooper, and Mompoint with their matching ink, as well as 36 other Broadway-inspired tattoos:
