The 2001 world-premiere cast recording of Cole Porter's You Never Know has received a special digital-only reissue, after being out of print for several years. The recording stars Kristin Chenoweth, David Garrison, Harry Groener, Donna McKechnie, and Angela Teek.
Originally written by Cole Porter and Rowland Leigh from the play By Candlelight, You Never Know premiered on Broadway in 1938. This studio recording of the work is based on a 1991 production at Pasadena Playhouse, which featured a new book by the production's director, Paul Lazarus.
The recording also reflects the Pasadena production's revised song list, which included several songs cut during the show's original out-of-town try-out ("By Candlelight," "I'm Going In for Love," "I'm Back in Circulation") and four numbers newly interpolated from other Porter scores ("I Happen to Be in Love" written for Broadway Melody of 1940; "Ridin' High" from Red, Hot, and Blue; "Let's Misbehave," cut from Paris; and "Let's Not Talk About Love," from Let's Face It.)
This album is produced by Bruce Kimmel, and features musical supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Steve Orich. This new reissue is being released by Ghostlight Records.
