Michael Korte has released his latest music video mash-up of pop music and musical theatre, this time combining Drake and Broadway’s Dreamgirls.
In an arrangement by Jared Jenkins, performers B.Slade, Danielle Withers, Chrystian, Mariah Maxwell, Mark Joseph, and Lanita Smith mix 55 Drake songs with Dreamgirls hits like “Move,” “Fake Your Way to the Top,” “Steppin’ to the Bad Side,” “Dreamgirls,” “Love You I Do,” “Family,” “It’s All Over,” and “And I Am Telling You,” and more. Watch the video, filmed by Baxter Stapleton, above.
Korte has also produced such mash-ups fusing Lady Gaga and Rent, Beyoncé and Hamilton, and Prince and The Color Purple, as well as The Evolution of Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Dreamgirls first bowed on Broadway at the Imperial Theatre in 1981 with Sheryl Lee Ralph as Deena, Jennifer Holliday as Effie, and Loretta Devine as Lorrell. A London revival closed in January, with an eye on the other side of the pond (no official word yet on details of a Broadway transfer).
