Grody-Patinkin stepped in for two-time Tony winner and Olivier Award nominee Patti LuPone, who was suffering from severe back pain, according to a show spokesperson. (LuPone was able to return for the evening performance.)
Because much of An Evening features duets and scenes between the two original Evita stars, Patinkin performed an entirely different show for the audience at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. The Tony winner offered excerpts from his newest one-person show, Let Go.
As for Grody-Patinkin, he sang Harry Chapin's "Cat's in the Cradle" and Into the Woods' "Agony," the latter a duet with his father, among others. (Grody-Patinkin has been singing with his father since he was a child, and in the past year he has joined his father for several of his solo concerts.)
