Max Vernon, the award-winning composer of The View UpStairs and KPOP, will launch his first residency at Joe’s Pub this fall. Entitled Existential Life Crisis Lullaby, performances will be held September 25, October 23, and November 27, all at 7 PM.
Vernon will be joined September 25 by Tony winner Tonya Pinkins, Tony nominee Daphne Rubin-Vega, Tony nominee Annie Golden, MJ Rodriguez, Gizel Jimenez, Chrissi Poland, and Veronica Swift. Ellie Heyman will direct.
Vernon's musicals have received the Lucille Lortel Award for Best Musical, three Drama Desk Award nominations, a Jonathan Larson Grant, and the Richard Rodgers Award; KPOP is planning a new Off-Broadway production in 2019.
In addition to his acclaimed musicals, the residency will preview Vernon's newest work, The Tattooed Lady (written with Obie-winning playwright Erin Courtney) alongside other previously unheard material. The series will feature different directors—Jaki Bradley for October and Jenny Koons for November—different set lists, and about 300 costumes, many created by Vernon himself.
Joe's Pub is located in The Public Theater, 425 Lafayette Street (between East 4th Street and Astor Place). For tickets call (212) 967-7555 or visit joespub.com.
Next year, Carnegie Hall's house band will perform Bernstein’s “Kaddish” Symphony, unfinished works by Schubert, and the final concert of Conductor Bernard Labadie.
