News Todrick Hall Joins Broadway’s Kinky Boots Tonight The singer-songwriter and YouTube personality steps into the role of Lola.

Acclaimed vocalist Todrick Hall, whose Broadway credits include Memphis and the original production of The Color Purple, joins the cast of the Tony-winning musical Kinky Boots beginning November 1. Hall steps into the role of Lola, the part created by Tony winner Billy Porter, through March 5, 2017.

Hall rose to fame as a contestant on the ninth season of American Idol. Since then, he has garnered millions of dedicated YouTube fans with his music videos that put new spins on hit songs and movies. He served as a guest judge on the recent season of RuPaul’s All Stars Drag Race.

Hall succeeds Alan Mingo, Jr. in the hit musical, now in its fourth year at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street).

“We’re so thrilled to have Todrick join the company and get to show off his incredible talent to Broadway audiences,” producers Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig said in an earlier statement.

With a Tony Award-winning score by Cyndi Lauper, a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein, direction and choreography by Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell, Kinky Boots, according to its producers, “tells the uplifting and heartwarming tale of Charlie Price, a young man reluctantly taking over his family’s struggling business. Charlie meets and finds inspiration in Lola and together, the unlikely pair finds that they have more in common than they ever dreamed possible… and discovers that when you change your mind about someone, you can change your whole world.”
