Tickets are now on sale via Ticketmaster for the Broadway premiere of Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, which begins previews March 28 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. The new musical is set to officially open April 23.
Summer is directed by Tony Award winner Des McAnuff (Jersey Boys, Tommy), who collaborated on the book with Tony nominee Colman Domingo (Wild With Happy, The Scottsboro Boys), and Robert Cary (Grease Live, A Christmas Story Live).
More than 20 of the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter's hits are featured in the show, including “Bad Girls,” “She Works Hard for the Money,” “MacArthur Park,” “On the Radio,” “No More Tears (Enough Is Enough),” and “Dim All the Lights,” which Summer wrote alone.
The production arrives on Broadway after an extended world-premiere run at the La Jolla Playhouse.
A trio of actors portray Summer at various stages in her life, taking on the respective roles of Diva Donna, Disco Donna, and Duckling Donna. The premiere starred Tony Award winner LaChanze (The Color Purple), Ariana DeBose (Hamilton), and Storm Lever (Freaky Friday).
Casting for the Broadway production has not been announced.
Summer features choreography by Sergio Trujillo, music supervision by Ron Melrose, set design by Robert Brill, costumes by Paul Tazewelll, lighting design by Howell Binkley, sound design by Gareth Owen, and projection design by Sean Nieuwenhuis.
Summer is produced on Broadway by Tommy Mottola and the Dodgers.
