Playbill Universe The Verdict: Critics Review The Bandstand at Paper Mill Playhouse Tony Award nominee Laura Osnes (Cinderella), Corey Cott (Gigi) and Tony winner Beth Leavel (The Drowsy Chaperone) star in The Bandstand, a new musical directed and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler (Hamilton) that officially opened Oct. 18 at Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey.

Set in 1945, the final year of World War II, the self-described "big-band musical" chronicles the story of a mismatched band of WWII veterans who join together to compete in a radio contest with dreams of stardom. The show has music by Cirque du Soleil’s Richard Oberacker and book and lyrics by Robert Taylor and Oberacker.

The show has scenic design by David Korins, costume design by Paloma Young, lighting design by Jeff Croiter, sound design by Nevin Steinberg and casting by Tara Rubin Casting.

Leavel and Osnes took part in a New York City workshop of the musical in September 2014. Performances began Oct. 8 and are scheduled to run through Nov. 8. There has been talk of a future Broadway life for the production, but no theatre or dates have been announced.
