Playbill has confirmed that Steven Pasquale will return to the Broadway stage this fall in the new drama Junk, written by Pulitzer Prize winner Ayad Akhtar.
Performances will begin October 5 (as opposed to the previously announced September 14) at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre, where the Lincoln Center Theater production will open officially November 2. Doug Hughes directs.
The play, which premiered at La Jolla Playhouse last summer, takes place in 1985 and follows Robert Merkin, an investment firm hotshot whose proclamation that “debt is an asset” disrupts the American economy. In the thriller, Akhtar charts the evolution of capitalism in a way he likens to a Shakespearean history.
Prior to his Broadway return, Pasquale will star as John Wilkes Booth in Assassins as part of New York City Center's Encores! Off-Center series July 12–15. His previous New York stage credits include The Bridges of Madison County,The Robber Bridegroom, reasons to be pretty, and Far From Heaven. He is also known for his TV performances in such shows as Doubt, Bloodline, American Crime Story, The Good Wife, and Rescue Me.
Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
Next year, Carnegie Hall's house band will perform Bernstein’s “Kaddish” Symphony, unfinished works by Schubert, and the final concert of Conductor Bernard Labadie.
