David Cote has created the book that traces Spring Awakening's journey from workshops and its Off-Broadway world premiere through its Tony-winning arrival on Broadway. "In the Flesh" includes over 100 photographs, costume and set sketches, original handwritten drafts of the score, behind-the-scenes stories, the complete libretto and portions of Frank Wedekind's original 1891 play.
The 176-page book also features interviews with the creative team and original cast, and offers an in-depth look at the casting process of Spring Awakening, including what each actor performed at his or her audition.
Spring Awakening's Tony Award-winning creators, Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater, will join current Broadway cast members and producer Tom Hulce to celebrate the release of "In the Flesh" at the Lincoln Triangle Barnes and Noble on Sept. 15.
The national touring company of Spring Awakening, led by Kyle Riabko and Blake Bashoff, will perform and sign copies of "Spring Awakening: In the Flesh" at select cities throughout the tour, which currently plays San Francisco's Curran Theatre.
