Playbill.com has learned that a spring 2011 Broadway opening is being eyed for the musical about a New Jersey housewife who put the Shirelles together. The musical that previously played Pasadena Playhouse in 2009 borrows from the Shirelles' song catalog.
Universal Music Group and Warner Bros. Theater Ventures are the show's commercial producers, according to Variety.
The musical has a book by 2010 Tony Award nominees Floyd Mutrux and Colin Escott, who co-wrote Broadway's Million Dollar Quartet. Mutrux will co-direct with Sheldon Epps.
Baby It's You! focuses on Florence Greenberg, the New Jersey housewife who discovered the pop group The Shirelles, and created a record label for new voices in the 1960s.
