"Undefeated" follows the story of an amateur boxer from Jackson Heights, Queens, who is thrown into the world of professional boxing. The welterweight struggles with fame, betrayal, money, success and more on his way to the top.
Leguizamo, who was last seen in Sexaholix...a love story, has previously donned the Broadway stage in his other solo works Mambo Mouth, Spic-O Rama and Freak: A Semi-Demi-Quasi Pseudo Autobiography. As a film actor, he may be remembered for turns in Baz Luhrmann's "Moulin Rouge" and "Romeo + Juliet," in Spike Lee's "The Summer of Sam" or in "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar."
Pugliese won an Obie Award for his show Aven 'U Boys. The onetime artistic director of New York troupe Naked Angels, also penned The King of Connecticut, The Talk, The Alarm, Hope Is the Thing with Feathers and The Crazy Girl. Pugliese is a former NYU Playwright in Residence at London's Royal Court and currently teaches playwriting at Columbia University.
"Undefeated" also stars Nestor Serrano (Cuba & His Teddy Bear), David Zayas (Our Lady of 121st Street, HBO's "Oz"), Clifton Collins, Jr. ("Traffic"), Vanessa Ferlito ("The 25th Hour"), Omar Benson Miller ("8 Mile") and Robert Forster (Mrs. Dally, "Jackie Brown").
The film is executive produced by Rebel Films' Leguizamo and Kathy DeMarco. Hart/Sharp Entertainment's John N. Hart, Jeffrey Sharp and Robert Kessel as well as Enrique Chediak also serve as executive producers. Forensic Films' Scott Macaulay and Robin O'Hara produce with HBO Films senior vice president Keri Putnam as the executive in charge of the film.
