MCC Theater will present a limited return engagement of Jocelyn Bioh’s critically acclaimed School Girls; Or, the African Mean Girls Play at the Lucille Lortel Theatre this fall. Tony winner Rebecca Taichman will return to direct the production, with performances set to begin October 16.
The show is set to officially open at MCC October 22 and will run through November 25. Casting will be announced shortly.
School Girls received a critically acclaimed world premiere from MCC last fall, marking actor and playwright Bioh's professional playwriting debut. The play tells a coming-of-age story set in an all-girls boarding school in Ghana in the ‘80s, and explores themes of beauty, colorism, and female adolescence. Prior to its return run at MCC, School Girls will launch the Center Theater Group's 2018–2019 season in the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Los Angeles in September. The show will begin September 2 on the West Coast and is scheduled to run through September 30.
For a limited time, 2018–2019 MCC Theater subscribers can access discounted tickets to the return Off-Broadway engagement of School Girls as the production is not included in the new season packages. As previously announced, MCC's 2018–2019 season will be staged in the company's new complex at West 52nd Street beginning in January 2019.
