Laurie Metcalf, who won her first Tony Award earlier this year for her performance in A Doll’s House, Part 2, will be honored at MCC’s annual Miscast gala. The event is set for March 26, 2018, at the Hammerstein Ballroom.
The event, which has become one of the theatre community’s most prominent annual revues, offers stage favorites the chance to perform numbers and roles that they would likely never take on in their proper context. This past year’s edition included Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz singing Dreamgirls’ “And I Am Telling You,” original Effie Jennifer Holliday performing “I Am What I Am” from La Cage aux Folles, and Hamilton star Mandy Gonzalez having a go at the Dear Evan Hansen anthem “Waving Through a Window.”
Metcalf is set to return to Broadway this spring in Three Tall Women. She appeared at MCC in The Other Place, later earning a Tony nomination for the Broadway transfer.
“Laurie Metcalf is a rock star. She’s basically the definition of fearless. She’s astonishingly inventive and brings every character she plays fully alive,” said MCC Co-Artistic Director Bernard Telsey in a statement. “It was a gift working with her at MCC when she premiered The Other Place with us. But really it’s a gift every time she’s on stage, which fortunately for all of us, she returns to again and again. We’re so excited about honoring her at the next Miscast.”The gala will also honor performer Amy León with the 2018 MCC Theater Youth Company Alumni Award.
