Sarah Cameron Sunde translated and directs the play by Norwegian playwright Fosse, which will officially open Oct. 25 for a run through Nov. 25.

Allen is joined by Carlo Alban, McCaleb Burnett, Maren Bush, Pamela Shaw and Samantha Soule ("Smash," A Little Journey at the Mint, Broadway's Coram Boy and The Philanthropist).

"A visit to an old friend sparks the memory of a visit years earlier and the mysterious disappearance of a loved one," according to Rattlestick notes. "Set in two time periods in the same idyllic house, A Summer Day evokes the nostalgia of the end of an affair, capturing love both in the moment and as a distant memory. Acclaimed Norwegian writer Jon Fosse, widely considered to be one of the world's greatest living playwrights, receives an American premiere with this deep meditation on the nature of loss."

The creative team includes John McDermott (scenic design), Deb O (costume design), Nicole Pearce (lighting design), Leah Gelpe (sound design) and Andrew Diaz (properties).

Fosse's plays have been translated into more than 40 languages. His plays include And never we'll be parted, Someone is going to come, Autumn Dream and I am the wind. Fosse won the International Ibsen Award in 2012. Allen played Helen Keller in William Gibson's The Monday After the Miracle on Broadway. She has worked in regional theatres including Williamstown Theatre Festival, Berkshire Theatre Festival and Westport Country Playhouse. Her films include "Animal House," "The Wanderers," "A Small Circle of Friends," "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Shoot the Moon," "Starman," "The Glass Menagerie" (starring Joanne Woodward, directed by Paul Newman) and "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."

Allen has also directed plays and is on the faculty of the theatre department at Bard College. She is a member of the Actor's Studio.

Cherry Lane Theatre is located at 38 Commerce Street, two blocks below Bleecker Street.
