The world premiere of the musical It Happened in Key West, featuring a book and score by Jill Santoriello, will play the Charing Cross Theatre this summer. Performances will run at the London venue July 4–August 18. Marc Robin directs and choreographs.
Joining Santoriello (A Tale of Two Cities) on the creative team are Jason Huza (book and additional lyrics) and Jeremiah James (book and original concept).
The show, billed as a romantic comedy, follows the real-life of Carl Von Cosel. Haunted by boyhood visions of a girl lost to tuberculosis, Carl removed her body from the graveyard and lived undiscovered with her corpse for seven years.
A developmental lab took place at the Fulton Theatre last year.
The world premiere will feature sets by Jamie Roderick, costumes by Lisa Zinni, and orchestrations by Robert Felstein. Casting, to be announced at a later date, is by Neil Rutherford.
