Tony winners Idina Menzel and Casey Nicholaw will be honored by the Drama League at the 84th annual Drama League Awards, taking place May 18 at the Marriott Marquis Times Square.
Menzel, who won a Tony for Wicked and last appeared on Broadway in If/Then, will receive the Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theater Award. She will return to the New York stage this spring in the Roundabout Theatre Company production Joshua Harmon’s Skintight (a play, not a musical) Off-Broadway.
Director-choreographer Nicholaw, a Tony winner for The Book of Mormon who’s represented on Broadway this season with Mean Girls (and with The Prom on the way), will be honored with the Foudners Award for Excellence in Directing.
Additionally, the National Endowment for the Arts will receive the Unique Contribution to the Theater Award. Chariman Jane Chu will accept on the NEA’s behalf.
Nominations for the competitive categories: Outstanding Play, Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Revival of a Musical, and Distinguished Performance Award (which an artist can win only once in their career), will be announced April 18.
