A representative for Groff confirmed to Playbill.com that the young actor is currently shooting the pilot of the telepic that casts Fiennes as Bob, a married man and father who decides to undergo sexual reassignment surgery. "Matrix" star Carrie-Anne Moss will play Fiennes' wife with Tony winner Blythe Danner and Robert Wagner as his parents. Groff portrays one of Fiennes' two sons.
Groff, who has been out of the Broadway hit Spring Awakening since Oct. 27, will continue shooting the series pilot through Nov. 17. He is expected to return to the Tony-winning musical at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre after that time, although a spokesperson for the musical was unable to confirm his return date as of press time.
Originally titled "4oz.," a reference to the average weight of a penis, "Pretty Handsome" is penned by "Nip/Tuck" writers Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy, who also direct. An air date has not been scheduled for the pilot produced by Dede Gardner, Brian Murphy and Brad Pitt.
Jonathan Groff was Tony-nominated for his work as Melchior in the Broadway production of Spring Awakening, the role he originated Off-Broadway. He made his Broadway debut in the short-lived musical In My Life, with regional appearances in Fame and The Sound of Music. Groff's television credits include a recurring role on "One Life to Life" this past spring.
