Head Over Heels, the new musical featuring the songs of the all-female rock band The Go-Go’s, begins performances April 10 at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco. The pre-Broadway engagement will officially open April 18 for a limited run through May 6.
The Michael Mayer-helmed production will arrive on Broadway June 23 at the Hudson Theatre, where it will open July 26.
Featuring a book by Jeff Whitty adapted by James Magruder, Head Over Heels uses the music of the all-female rock band to tell an updated take on Philip Sidney’s Arcadia. Audiences can expect such Go-Go’s hits as “We Got the Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” and the title tune, as well as original Go-Go’s member Belinda Carlisle’s singles “Mad About You” and “Heaven is a Place on Earth.”
The cast features Jeremy Kushnier (Paramour), Rachel York (Disaster!), Alexandra Socha (Spring Awakening), Peppermint (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Andrew Durand (Spring Awakening), Taylor Iman Jones (Groundhog Day), Bonnie Milligan (the national tour of Kinky Boots), and Tom Alan Robbins (The Lion King).
Featured in the ensemble are Sharon Catherine Brown, Yurel Echezarreta, Lisa Finegold, Brian Flores, Ari Groover, Tanya Haglund, Arica Jackson, Gregory Liles, Gavin Lodge, Samantha Pollino, Justin Prescott, Tanner Ray Wilson, and Ricardo Zayas.
The creative team also includes scenic and puppet design by Tony Award nominee Julian Crouch, costume design by Academy Award and Tony Award nominee Arianne Phillips, lighting design by four-time Tony Award winner Kevin Adams, sound design by Tony Award nominee Kai Harada, and projection design by Andrew Lazarow.
Gwyneth Paltow produces, having spearheaded a series of revisions and workshops following the 2015 world premiere at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Producing alongside her are Donovan Leitch, Rick Ferrari, Christine Russell, Louise Gund, Hunter Arnold, and Tom Kirdahy.
