Newsies tells the inspiring story of a band of underdog newsboys who become unlikely heroes when they stand up for what’s right. Now it’s your turn to make a difference!
Playbill is calling on students to work together on a service project that promotes positive change in their hometown or community.
Through a school, theatre, or local non-profit group, create and activate a community service project and document the process. Produce a short video spotlighting the positive impact your project inspires and submit it to Playbill via Twitter for a chance to win the performance rights to the first amateur production of Newsies!
Five finalists’ videos will be featured on Playbill.com where an online voting contest will take place during February 2018. The grand prize winner will be announced March 1.
The winner of the Newsies “Seize the Day” Challenge will win the performance rights to the very first official amateur production of Newsies, an official PLAYBILLder for their production, and other special prizes.

HOW TO ENTER:
Submit your community service videos between September 12, 2017 through January 8, 2018 via Twitter. Be sure to include the official hashtags for the contest: #NewsiesChallenge and #SeizeTheDayChallenge. All videos should be no longer than 90 seconds. To maximize your video submission, all tweets should tag the following organizations: @playbill, @mtishows, and @disneymusicals.
ENTRY PERIOD:
All video submissions via twitter must be received during the entry period, which begins at 12:01 AM/ET on September 12, 2017, and closes at 11:59 PM/ET on January 8, 2018.
Five finalists will be announced on February 5, 2018. General voting will take place on Playbill.com starting at 9:00 AM on February 5, 2018, and will close at 11:59 PM/ET on February 25, 2018. After the official voting period has ended, the grand prize winner will be announced on Playbill.com on March 1, 2018.

Who is Eligible?
The Contest is open only to persons who legally reside in the United States. The Newsies “Seize the Day” Challenge will be open to any non-professional group who produces theatre: High Schools, Middle Schools, Community Theatres, Civic Group, etc. The winner of the Newsies “Seize the Day” Challenge must be attached to a local educational body or organization. Entrants must qualify as an authorized personnel from organization and be 18+ years of age to submit videos online. All entrants must demonstrate that they can produce a production of Newsies through the requirements held by Music Theatre International and Disney Theatrical Group By submitting a video with the hashtags #PlaybillContest and #SeizeTheDayContest on Twitter, you represent and warrant to Sponsor that you have all rights, permissions and consents necessary to submit the video on Twitter, distribute on Playbill.com for voting, and to grant the rights to Sponsor as expressed herein.
You must have the prior written consent of any person (if a minor, then their parent or legal guardian) who appears in, is mentioned in, or otherwise contributed to your video (including the videographer, if other than you) granting you the right to include them in your video, to use your video in this Contest and as otherwise expressed herein. Finalists must furnish proof of such consents in a form satisfactory to Sponsor as a condition of being confirmed as a finalist. If you are selected as a finalist and fail to furnish such proof in a form acceptable to Sponsor, you understand and agree that your entry will be disqualified and you will forfeit the opportunity to win the prize.
All entrants must agree not to list any of your sponsors in connection with any advertising or promotion of the “Challenge” and/or any entry videos if such sponsors do business in any of the following categories: adult themes, language, or situations not appropriate for minors, alcohol, tobacco and firearms. Any violation of the foregoing provisions shall disqualify organization from eligibility.
Any Employees of Playbill, Inc., Disney Theatrical Group, and Music Theatre International and their immediate families, officers, directors, agents, representatives and affiliated companies, its advertising and promotion agencies, and the sponsors and prize donors are not eligible to participate in this Contest.

Entry Period:
· All entries must be received during the Entry Period, which begins at 12:01 AM/ET on September 12, 2017, and closes at 11:59 PM/ET on January 8, 2018.
· A review board will choose 5 finalists that will be announced February 5, 2018. Starting at 9 AM/ET on February 5, 2018, general voting will take place on Playbill.com and will close at 11:59 PM/ET on February 25. 2018.
· The grand prize winner will be announced on March 1, 2018 on Playbill.com

Winner will be awarded the Contest prize of the following:
· Dramatic stage rights and standard rental package for Newsies via Music Theatre International (includes up to (6) performances of royalties); Rental package includes: 32 Libretto / Vocal books, (1) Piano-Conductor Score, Piano / (1) Vocal Score, and Standard Orchestration (11-instrumental books for musicians).
· Logo Pack which includes logos in color and black & white, with multiple digital format files (JPG, TIFF, PNG and, in some cases, EPS) for marketing production.
· Video License granting non-commercial (home-use only) video recordings of production for archival use. Video Licenses also grant permission to create copies of recordings to distribute to participants in production.
· Printing of 1 production PLAYBILLder. Details include: 1500 copies of a 24 page, full-color PLAYBILLder.

Selection of Contest Prize Winner:
Five (5) Semi-finalists will be selected on January 22, 2018, and notified via direct message on Twitter. Semi-Finalists will be selected by a panel of judges decided by Playbill at their discretion. Judging criteria for contest semi-finalists and winner will be based on creativity, originality of ideas, and how the event benefits the participants’ community (i.e. fills a need, provides a service, creates a discernible impact, stimulates a positive attitude). Semi-finalists will be required to: provide email and contact information, execute likeness and/or parental consent forms provided by Playbill, confirm approval from authorized agent of organization, and create a customer account with Music Theatre International (at no additional fee or cost(s) to winner). Prize will be awarded to an organization (school, community theatre) not an individual.
One (1) winner chosen from general voting (voting will take place on Playbill.com starting at 9:00 AM/ET on February 5, 2018, and will close at 11:59 PM/ET on February 25, 2018. The Contest Winner will be announced on March 1, 2018 after the official voting period has ended. Winner will be contacted via email/phone. If winner doesn't respond within 48 hours after attempted notification, Playbill, Inc. reserves the right to choose an alternate winner from the other finalists (1st Runner-Up). The announcement of the winner will be conducted by Playbill, Inc., whose decisions and interpretations of these Official Rules shall apply and be final. Except where prohibited by law or regulation, a winner's acceptance of the prize will constitute permission for Playbill, Inc., its affiliated companies, sponsors, or prize donors to use a winner's name, likeness, and statements for any purpose in reference to the Contest and this promotion without additional compensation, consideration, or consent. Current pilot productions of Newsies (arranged through Music Theatre International and Disney Theatrical Group) are not eligible for the Newsies “Seize the Day” Challenge.
Once a video has been shared on twitter, Playbill, Inc., Disney Theatrical Group, and Music Theatre International have the right to share any entry video on their official social channels to highlight the Newsies “Seize the Day” Challenge. If a sponsor of the Newsies “Seize the Day” Challenge shares an entry video, this in no way classifies a video as a finalist.
Neither Playbill, Inc. nor its affiliates or related companies are responsible for any damages, taxes, or expenses that the winner might incur as a result of this Contest or receipt of prizes.
