The Distinguished Production Awards will be announced at the Drama League's Annual Awards Luncheon May 9, at the Grand Hyatt. The Drama League's Distinguished Performance Award will be announced at the event. It is the nation's oldest acting honor, first presented in 1935, pre-dating the Tony Awards by 12 years. The Drama League's national membership votes for the performance and production awards in the days preceding the event. "This year's winner of the Distinguished Performance Award will join many past recipients of that award and a dais lined with actors who have created the season's most memorable performances on and Off-Broadway," according to the nominations announcement April 28. "All of the stars on the dais will be given the chance to speak during the luncheon.
Proceeds from the Annual Awards Luncheon support the training programs of The Drama League Directors Project.
The Drama League is devoted to supporting and strengthening theatre in America "by broadening and stimulating the audience for quality theatre and by developing emerging talents for careers in the theatre."
Tickets for the event may be purchased from The Drama League by calling (212) 244-9494, ext 25.
