Messé first revealed the news on the official Facebook page for Hem, stating, "So not the best kept secret, but still I'm happy to announce that I've been commissioned to adapt the film 'Amélie' for Broadway. The creative team includes Craig Lucas (book) and Nathan Tysen (co-lyrics). Can't wait to share it with you!"
Playbill.com has also learned that Tony Award-winning director Pam MacKinnon (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Clybourne Park) is directing with the inventive modern dance troupe Pilobolus choreographing.
Lucas is the Tony Award-nominated book writer of The Light in the Piazza. His works also include The Dying Gaul, Prelude to a Kiss, Marry Me a Little and the current hit Australian musical King Kong.
Tysen is the lyricist of the Broadway-aimed Tuck Everlasting as well as Fugitive Songs.
An album preserving Hem's score for Twelfth Night, featuring Anne Hathaway ("Rachel Getting Married"), Raúl Esparza (Company, Speed-the-Plow) and Audra McDonald (110 in the Shade, Master Class, Ragtime), was released in 2009.
