Composer and co-book writer Intrabartolo collaborated with lyricist and co-book writer Jon Hartmere on Bare, which had a 2000 Los Angeles premiere. The musical quickly garnered a cult following and ran through Feb. 25, 2001, at the Hudson Theatre in L.A. It received the 2001 Ovation Award, Backstage Garland Award, LA Drama Critics Circle Award and LA Weekly Award (Best Original Score and Best Musical).
Following the Los Angeles production, Bare began an Off-Broadway run at the American Theatre of Actors (Chernuchin Theatre) March 25, 2004. It opened April 19, 2004, and played through May 27, 2004.
A re-imagined version of Bare returned Off-Broadway in December 2012; however, Intrabartolo was not actively involved. It retained much of his original score with additional songs by Hartmere and Lynne Shankel (Altar Boyz, Cry-Baby, Company).
A native of New Jersey, Intrabartolo was living in the Phoenix, AZ, area at the time of his death. He was working on several projects, among them a new musical titled Ride... a pop fable.
Bare continues to be staged across the world. A new Los Angeles production, under the wing of glory|struck productions, will begin Sept. 5 at the Hayworth Theatre. Bare received its European premiere in April at the Union Theatre in London.
